After another Google update over the last few days we are seeing more proof that the search engines are taking a more active role in combating the efforts of webmasters and website owners attempting to manipulate their ranking in the SERPs (search engine results pages).
We’ve known for some time now that Google has been looking at far more data than just the anchor text and number of links pointing to a particular page. They are also looking at historical data as well as relevance and the credibility of the site that the links are on. To further complicate matters, the back link and PR updates have been less frequent in an effort to prevent webmasters from accurately determining the results of changes they make to their websites.
While many people find this frustrating, especially those trying to generate revenue through their website, it is necessary. As the algorithms that search engines use to rank a website are further improved, the non-relevant websites that use spam to get a high ranking will fall off the map and only those that are legitimate will remain.
